Washington State Governor Signs MCS Proclamation

Steve Monroe
Founder of MCS-Awareness.Org
WA, Jefferson County Rep' for MCS International

Congratulations Again!
Steve Monroe, Joyce Jallo, and Sandy Mozingo have done it again! Another MCS Proclamation for Washington State! It's sometimes all too easy when striving to take 'new ground' to forget just how important it is to 'hold the ground' that has already been taken. Without consolidation we build houses of cards. So, another big well-done to you all. - Gordon D McHendry.

The Letter
January 01, 2008

Honorable Governor Christine Gregoire
Proclamations Dept.
P O Box 40002
Olympia, WA 98504-0002

Dear Governor Gregoire,

By signing the proclamations designating the month of May as “Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Awareness Month” in 2005, 2006 and 2007, you’ve shown the nation how much Washington State cares about human health, including environmentally induced illnesses suffered by so many people. You have continued to promote education and respect for the many who suffer from Multiple Chemical Sensitivity as well as related environmental illnesses.

You have stated the importance of working to improve the health of Washingtonians and have shown your dedication to this goal, in part, by signing the proclamations to promote better understanding of Multiple Chemical Sensitivity for the last three years. By continuing to designate May as Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Awareness month in Washington State you are continuing to promote better understanding and recognition of this all too common illness as a legitimate physical illness for the purpose of obtaining the same rights and considerations regarding medical treatment and accommodations that people with other disabling conditions receive.

You also urged all citizens to support the understanding, education, and research of Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS). In 2007 thirty five other governors also signed either MCS or Toxic Illness proclamations, but you were the first to do so in both 2006 and 2007. Washington State has been a leader in promoting understanding of Multiple Chemical Sensitivity and it is included in the State's disability handbook. It is also listed as an actual medical condition under RCW 70.162.005.

We, the undersigned, would like to once again request that you please continue your support for the ongoing education & recognition of this illness by signing a proclamation to designate May 2008 to be "Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Awareness Month" in Washington State.

Thank you for your continued dedication and leadership in our state. Your attention to the need for continued public education for the promotion and understanding of Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, as part of your goal for furthering the quality of healthcare in Washington State is exemplary and appreciated.
